Vom 22. bis 25. Oktober fand in Banja Luka die Schule der Demokratie für Studierende aus BiH, Montenegro und Kroatien statt. Gemeinsam mit dem Zentrum für internationale Beziehungen aus Banja Luka und dem Zentrum für internationale Studien aus Zagreb fördert die Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Bosnien und Herzegowina mit der Schule der Demokratie den Austausch zwischen Studierenden über die jeweiligen Landesgrenzen hinweg und tritt damit ein für einen Abbau von Stereotypen und Vorurteilen unter den Jugendlichen in der Region.
Im Rahmen des fünftägigen Programms konnten die Teilnehmer_innen u.a. eigenständig das Programm eines Future Search Workshop erstellen und darin über die Ursachen und Folgen der Emigration von jungen Leuten aus diesen Ländern diskutieren.
Ein Panel war der Auseinandersetzung mit der gemeinsamen Vergangenheit gewidmet. Der Fokus lag auf der Frage wie junge Menschen die Geschehnisse der jüngeren Vergangenheit sehen und wie eine kritische Auseinandersetzung stattfinden kann, um gegenseitiges Vertrauen aufbauen zu können und Versöhnungsprozesse konstruktiv zu gestalten. Gesprächspartner in diesem Panel waren Vertreter_innen aus Politik und Akademischer Gemeinschaft.
Das verbriefte Recht der Medienfreiheit und seine Bedeutung für eine demokratische Gesellschaft war Thema eines gesonderten Panels, in dem die Studierenden mit Jorunalisten_innen die über die Rahmenbedingungen in denen Journalisten_innen arbeiten und den Stand der Medienfreiheit in der Region und der EU diskutierten .
