Vijek u kojem živimo stavlja nekoliko tema na dnevnu agendu, a neke od vodećih sfera su politika i sport, koji su postali nezamislivi jedni bez drugog. Sprega ove dvije nekada nespojive oblasti postavljaju novu paradigmu. Sportisti iz BiH sa jedne strane trude se ostvariti što bolje rezultate sa ograničenim resursima, a sa druge strane političari „koriste“ uspjehe bh. sportista na međunarodnim takmičenjima te se involviraju u sve segmente sporta.
Kao nuspojava ovog spoja u Bosni i Hercegovini u zadnjih nekoliko godina imamo nekolicinu primjera gdje su ministri vanjskih poslova dodjeljivali diplomatske pasoše popularnim i uspješnim sportistima iz BiH.
S obzirom na diskreciono pravo ministra/ice da po svom nahođenju dodijeli diplomatski pasoš, postavlja se pitanje da li dodjeljivanje pasoša sportistima predstavlja jedan vid samopromocije u svrhu maskiranja stvari koje se dešavaju iza kulisa. Može se zaključiti da prema ovim pravilima diplomatski pasoš može dobiti bilo koja osoba za koju trenutni ministar/ica procijeni da je od posebnog interesa.
Sportisti koji su dobili diplomatske pasoše su nerijetko stavljeni u centar medijskih dešavanja u svrhu promocije i maskiranja (ne)rada Ministarstva vanjskih poslova. Naravno, sportistima je ovim činom olakšano putovanje na takmičenja van granica BiH te su ostvarili jedan određen prestiž u medijima koji ih treba „izdići“ u odnosu na „običnog“ stanovnika. Međutim, politika igra prljavo i koristi svaki segment društva u svrhu samopromocije i prikrivanja stvarnih namjera pa se tako može zaključiti da bez jasno navedenih kriterija za dodjelu diplomatskog pasoša trećim licima, ministar/ica može uvijek iskoristiti ovu kartu u svrhu skretanja pažnje sa drugih stvari, odnosno kako bi se kreirala predstava za javnost.
